HELP decide between NEX 5n or the NEX 3 ?

My first camera.. Just getting into photgrahy

I want to know is it worth going with the NEX 3 with 2 lens ?

Or should i do one lens with the NEX 5n ?

Looking to get one of these Sonys but don't really know the diffrence in the two. From what i can tell is the mega pixels.. And i guess the video is better on the 5n.

I saw that you can upgrade the firmware on the NEX3? I really like the the diffrent shooting modes you can do with the NEX5n, the pop art, retro, and so on..

If i do the firmware update i should be able to get all this on the NEX3 ? If so, should I just go with the NEX 3 and save some money?? Is it worth to have the pancake lens and the 18 - 55 lens ?

    any help..
    Thanks,
    -Mike-

I'd personally rather have the 5N. The pancake can be had on Ebay for 150 and the 5N is easier to resell. It isn't just the image quality that is better, the 5N has a touchscreen, and will work with remotes and evf.

Not sure if this is still a relevant question due to the date, if it is then here is my humble opinion. I have been using the Sony 5n since it came out, I have been using cameras for well over twenty years, large format, 35mm, and all forms of digital. At first I was really excited with the Sony's size (small camera big sensor) however I can honestly say if I could do it over I would not buy into the nex system at all.

Yes the sensor size/pocketable (with the pancake) is nice but the ergonomics of the menus, the button placement, the lack of a hot shoe, the lack of shutter release connection (IR just doesn't cut it) and it seems to be a very finicky camera always hitting the movie record button, the auto focus always seems to be jumping to some other mode and it's absolutely worthless in low light or for sporting events. I used it on an assignment - oops definitely not a camera to take when you need true performance. For the price and hype these cameras are not turnkey systems out of the box - touchscreen is a neat bell but give me a well thought out menu operating system over a new feature.

So in my humble opinion if you are completely new to photography I would highly recommend looking at other systems that are more intuitive. There's a lot more to photography than just the sensor. I haven't shot a piece of 4x5 film in years.

Months later picking up the nex is more of a choir than enjoyment.

p.s. yes I've posted here before and read many threads, just couldn't remember my correlating email/user name/ password so I had to re-register if that means anything
