    NEX-C3: is it good enough

So, did the heading get you curious? Here's the question in full: Sony NEX-C3; is it good enough to replace a Nikon D90 as my main camera. I know the D90 is a large DSLR and has a larger choice of lenses, but it is a heavy bit of kit and, after a days trudging around taking photographs, it can be a pain in the neck, literally!
    So, what do you think?

I would venture to say no based on the lack of decent range of low light primes, and more importantly lack of low light f/2.8 zooms.

No way simple for the fact that you cannot use studio lighting on the Nex-C3. Also having no viewfinder is a biggy as well in my opinion for certain situations like the "sun". You also have an advantage on the D9-0 with the sensor being a bit further back from the lens than on the Nex- Systems which gives you better depth of field control.

I'm not trying to downplay the Nex-C3 at all, but comparing it an DSLR as a replacement?? Depends on your photography needs really.

    Best,
    Jay

    Also downsizing from a Nikon

Macjim - How is it going with the Nex C3?

I hope well as I have just taken the plunge to trade in my D80 for one. The tiny size, good sensor and short lens to sensor distance did it for me.

    lets put it this way:

If your looking to replace your Nikon D90/D80 for a Interchangeable lens system, the sony nex series (not taking into account c3, 5n, etc) will be the best choice in its class. the only other comparable system would be the Samsung NX series (same sensor size but smaller MP)
Competing Panasonic or Olympus systems only have 4/3 system with a significantly smaller sensor and mp size.

So if thats your goal your on a winner, i own a Nex-C3 swell as DSLR's and the Nex-C3 is a fantastic alternative to have instead of carrying around a big heavy camera. The small little features like tilt screen and panoramic are awesome that don't feature anywhere else in its class.
