Thread: GH2 HDMI Output - Blocked!

I have a lovely GH2 that I want to use the HDMI output to drive an external recorder. The wrinkle is the recording device is a SD Sony DVD recorder. I purchased a HDMI converter box (link here: HDMI to 3RCA+Audio+Video/S-video Converter for PS3 DVD - eBay (item 370448477701 end time Jan-20-11 01:25:43 PST))

During playback the camera does what is expected, and the signal goes from the camera to the converter box and to the DVD recorder. However, when in video record/pause mode, the output is blocked.

I have hooked up the HDMI cable directly to a HD television, and the signal is passed in video record/pause mode. So it seems the camera senses some type of recording device and blocks output. This makes me nervous, as the next thing I want to hook it to is a HD HDMI recorder.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

It's official, Panasonic deliberately blocks the port (from the Lumix FB page):
