    45- 200 Lumix

Hi All: I am a dyed in the wool digital imagist (I try not to use "photography" when it comes to digital) who has also accumulated all sorts of digicams. I have always loved the Leica system and own analogue Leicas but have found, that the digital units are way too expensive and besides I like using new products. In any event, when micro 4/3 appeared and I was able to use my Leica lenses on my G1 and GF1 I was clam happy. Of course, I am a v/f and not a "chimping" photographer and never use the LCD unless in a moment of extremis. I shoot a lot with a 135 Hektor which gives me a 4/3 base of 270mm (efl) and even more when the view is increased by cutting down on the pixel numbers. (This is an option with the Panasonics). I shot a lot in Europe with this combination with great results. The other day I bought the 45-200mm Lumix. The results are staggaringly good. Sharpness I only thought possible with Leica lenses is now possible with this fabulous lens, I thought my lens was a "hot" item until one of the members of the LUG (Leica Users Group) posted that he had similar results. I cannot recommend the lens enough. At $300. it is an absolute bragain, when compared with other lenses. Now the only thing missing is a replacement for the absolutely awful GF1 accessory EVF. I presume that one is in the works, or perhaps a GF1 body with a built in EVF wwhich would be smaller than my G1. In any event- here is a shot which demonstrates the resolving power of the lens. This was only slightly Photoshopped - but nothing leaves my computer without a bit of PS. Regards to All: vroger

I am currently without any telezoom because I have sold my DSLR gear and I was seriously considering to buy the Panasonic 45-200. Your post is a point more in favour of this choice.

Yes, I agree with you. The 45-200mm lens is not perfect, but for the price, I think it gives a very good value for money. It's a must have lens, unless you dislike using tele.

I have written my opinions about the lens in the link below:

I've used this lens for about two years and it is generally a great lens. The biggest issue is that at full extension even with Image Stabilization, in many situations, a tripod helps. That said the shot below of an allee of trees in Bedariuex, France demonstrates the quality you can get in the right circumstances hand held..

This is a really convincing example. Thank you for sharing.
Were you shooting at 200 mm on a tripod?

No. This is a hand held grab shot. Had the ISO at 400 and was in P mode. Just held my breath and shot.

Very good indeed, and very nice capture, not only technically, I mean.
