    My wishlist for E-PL2

    I have been enjoying my E-PL1 with VF-2, Pan 20mm f/1.7, and Olympus 14-150 (primarily). I also have the kit zoom and adapters for T-mount and Konica AR lenses.

    Based on my experience so far, here is my wish list for the next Olympus camera (those starting with "*" might be able to be done with a software update on the PL1):

    Better ISO sensitivity (ISO 6400 as good as current 1600 would be nice, 25600 would be great).

    * More efficient video codec.

    Built-in EVF (this might make the next two moot).

    Use EVF and external mike together.

    Use EVF and any external flash together.

    * Faster and better focusing.

    * Ability to set a focus and remember it so can quickly go to it (alternative - infinity focus).

    Rocker switch for under/over exposure setting.

    Remote control.

    * Less magnification in focus aid - 2x or 4x, not 7x.

    More warning for low battery.

    (Of course, I will probably think of more as soon as I post this)

    My setup makes a great travel camera - it can even be carried in a camera vest.

    We are going to have a member meeting with some Olympus product management guys on the photokina - and we are starting to build up a list of questions.

    In the Leica Forum we call it "Laundry Lists"

    May I use your points for the list?
    Of course we'll publish all answers here too!

    One of the reasons I got an E-P2 was to put to good use my stash of "legacy" lenses, including OM, Leica and Pen FT beauties.

    It's wonderful to see how well these lenses work on the Pen. However, a minor deficit of the E-P2 with manual-only focus is having to constantly switch the monitor display from "zoom" to "info". That is, to get the magnified "assist", the "zoom" display needs to be active. But then you have to change the display to set ISO, WB, etc. Maybe I will yet find a better way to organize this, but it really isn't obvious.

    My wish for the "next generation" of Pens is to have more flexibility for programming buttons to make tasks like MF easier for the photographer to accomplish.

    BTW, I fully endorse the "laundry list" of improvements above.

    Jules.

    I agree, except the Less magnification in focus aid. I use Leica M lenses most of the time, and I'm fine with focussing as it is.

    I don't have an E-PL1 so can't say what it lacks other that based on specifications and owner's comments, but one thing comes always to my mind: some sort of jog dial. I guess that may be the same as the "Rocker switch" mentioned above, but my english is limited and I'm not sure. If it is, then forget what I said. If not, add it to list, please. I know it is one of the first things many people noticed -and complained- when the camera was released.

    A hybrid AF system like the one Fujifilm just introduced on their F300EXR. Legacy 4/3 non CDAF enabled lenses can then be used without any speed or accuracy issues.

    Here is an addition to my wish list:

    Silent picture taking. If It can take videos without closing the shutter, why not stills? This would be of greatest use at slow shutter speeds (1/60 or slower, usually indoors), so the sensor by itself might be able to do it.

    (As I said in the subject line, use any of these posts as you want)

    A much better dynamic range, and even better high ISO while they are at it
    built-in EVF
    totally remove AAF
    Shutter speed up to at least 1/8000
    Faster AF ? But if they can't do it comparable to at least a Canon 550D, forget it and do the above
    3 million megapixel EVF *lol*, with "split prism" option ... dreaming ...

    Cam Feature Most Amatuer / Serious Shutterbugs Forget or Ignore

    Most shutterbugs, amatuer or serious alike, would love cameras with fixed image viewer that can shoot in limited angle possibility but looks more professional as the film cameras of old. In my case, I wish my E-PL2 to have a HIV (Hinged Image Viewer) that I can seemingly toy in a corner, AIDS (As If Doing Something) when in reality I am taking candid pictures in ASAP (All Shooting Angle Possible). This is the joy of photography I want digital shutterbugs to realize the angles of shot they never had in their fixed lcd cameras and shooting for money can be fun too.

    Add a built-in hybrid GPS with maps so I can used it even without satellite signal in the middle of nowhere.
